12 pm – 3 pm | Exhale: New Work in Handmade Paper by Georgie Cunningham – Artist Demo #ADAYINSOUTHTOWN

October 12, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

free and open to public

Join us at Mockingbird Handprints, in the Blue Star Arts Complex, for a papermaking demonstration on October 12, noon to 3:00 pm.
Visit with Georgie Cunningham and learn about paper, fiber and pulp. Come get your hands wet!

Georgie was Born and raised in South Texas I have always loved wide, open spaces and big skies. As a papermaker I prefer hiking across the countryside looking for plants with papermaking potential rather than browsing the internet looking for fiber to purchase. That connection with nature has a strong influence on the direction my work takes.

My goal as a paper artist is to encourage people to pause—give them “breathing room”—permission not to look for image and meaning but to simply meditate on movement, color and light.

Georgie Cunningham’s work has shown at bj spokes gallery, Huntington, New York; The Foundry Art Centre, St. Charles, Missouri; Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Houston, Texas and other galleries across the country. Cunningham is a member of the Native Plant Society and Friends of Dard Hunter. She works out of her studio in the Texas Hill Country.
