TZOMPANTLI: SASAI Youth Street Art Exhibit
October 8 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pmFREE!!!
On October 8th, SASAI will host its first Youth Street Art Exhibit and Fundraiser during A Day in Southtown. With the financial support of renowned San Antonio Chef, Johnny Hernandez, SASAI successfully launched its Youth Street Art After School Program this past September. 10 lucky high school students were selected among many to receive a stipend and learn basics in spray paint handling and other fine art techniques. The program features hands-on art projects, sponsored by high profile or corporate brands that lend themselves to impressive resume building opportunities. Taught in four-week cycles, the program is lead by local distinguished artist, mentor, and public art educator, Rubio®. This launch cycle has given students a background in the cultural significance of day of the dead culture, and will showcase their two Calaveras (Tzompantli Skulls – 20 total) on a street art structure that will be on display for the Emmy award winning SPIRITLANDIA Day Of The Dead River Parade Celebration happening October 27th-30th. October 8th, we ask the public to come support the students’ progress at their first street art exhibit. Prints will be sold to raise funding for the students and the program. The Youth Street Art program strives to give students career development opportunities in high profile public art projects early in life and encourages positive reinforcement in responsibility, leadership, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit.
featured San Antonio Street Art High School Artists include: Franscisco Cortez, Athena Prieto, Araceli Gaitan, Chanel Avila, Elijah Posada, Koa Lopez, Autum Hernandez, Jazmín Muñiz Pedraza, Alondra Ortiz, Elliyah Posada
Please show your support for our high school students who will be showcasing their progress on their TZOMPANTLI Skulls.
Prints will be sold to raise funding for the students and the continuance of this after school program.
